Analysing a college magazine

Analysing a Magazine

In this blog, I will show how this magazine conveys formal or informal tones an how they are represented with-in.

Through-out the piece there are informal tones, The title of the magazine it's self has snow on it, connoting a jovial feel to the magazine.

FEMINISM AND ITS' HISTORY

There have always been independent feminists. In sixth century BC Greece, Sappho wrote lesbian poetry and ran a girls' school. The fifteenth century French writer Christine de Pisan is now regarded as a feminist thinker. In the seventeenth century English adventurer and political activist Aphra Benn was getting embroiled in the West Indian slave rebellion - and writing 13 novels. The radical way in which some men were thinking during the Age of Reason incidentally changed attitudes towards women. People like Newton, Locke, Voltaire and Diderot believed that science and reason could explain the world. They began to analyse women in terms of what they deemed 'natural' rather than what was divinely ordained. This was not necessarily better for women.
Women traditionally had been regarded as inferior to men physically and intellectually. Women could not possess property in their own names, engage in business, or control the disposal of their children or even of their own persons. Although Mary Astell and others had pleaded earlier for larger opportunities for women, the first feminist document was Mary Wollstonecraft's Vindication of the Rights of Women. In the French Revolution, women's republican clubs demanded that liberty, equality, and fraternity be applied regardless of sex, but this movement was extinguished for the time by the Code Napoleon.
